Reed was a member of the Inaugural Wards alongside Miss Militia, Chevalier, Mouse Protector and various others.

Personality

During the introduction of the Inaugural Wards, Reed admonishes Mouse Protector for her inappropriate behavior toward Chevalier. Despite this, he had to be chastised by Hero for volunteering potentially sensitive information about Chevalier's backstory.[1]

Appearance

Reed wore a professional, expensive black and green costume with leather and a utility belt. A leaf emblem was placed over his heart. To Chevalier's secondary power, he appeared to have a vague nimbus around him that warped the view of the landscape.[2]

Abilities and Powers

Reed's actual power is unknown. Through his second vision, Chevalier saw Reed's power as a vague nimbus surrounding him.[2]

History

Background

Reed was brought in as one of the Inaugural Wards. During their first meeting, he socialized with the other Wards, including Mouse Protector and Chevalier.[1]

He was part of the landmark ruling of Reed v. PRT, where Reed's parents alleged that Reed was not being given the time or resources to live a full and rich childhood during his time in the Wards. The PRT lost the case, and this eventually led to the creation of the Youth Guard.[3]

At some point, Reed left the Wards and the PRT.[4] He likely died or retired at a later date, as by the time of Ward his cape name was reused at least two times.[5]

  4. In the Reed v. PRT ruling, the parents [names redacted] of Reed, one of the first Wards, alleged that he wasn’t being given the time or resources to live a full and rich childhood. The PRT lost the case and Reed won certain rights and privileges, to be monitored by the same expert witnesses who testified on his parents’ behalf at the trial. They were given free access to the PRT locations and to Reed himself.
Following the trial, efforts were made to reach out to and check with other Wards, by these experts, by journalists, and by volunteer outreach. Many of these efforts were stymied or fruitless, especially when the organization lost their inside access with Reed’s departure from the Wards and PRT, and the original team of Wards scattered to multiple locations or ‘aged up’ into the Protectorate. In a confluence of further rulings on behalf of new Wards, activist outreach, and fresh questions from media about the Wards program, the PRT agreed that the Youth Guard could act as a ‘separate but integrated’ organization adjunct to the Wards. - Organization: Youth Guard
  5. “Was that Reed the Second?” I asked, before he was out of earshot.

“Third,” Stonewall said. “I don’t think it’s a lucky name to take, but they hear he was one of the first Wards and they feel an attachment to the name.”Black 13.2
